The 40 units — 6 reserved for veterans — will come with pre-installed electric, sewage, air conditioning, kitchen cabinets, carpeting and bathroom fixtures. The units still require siding and need to be connected.
John Biale, the Director of Development at the Housing Authority of Bergen County, expects the project to be complete by Summer 2016.
“There are no restrictions," said Biale of the applications. "As long as they are a senior and fit within the income level."
Applicants are vetted before they move in. In Bergen County alone, there are 5,000 seniors whose names are on the lists of those looking for similar housing assignments.
The modular structure was built in Scranton, Penn. by Simplex Homes and was delivered to the site in October. In nine business days, 40 units were assembled. Six units will be reserved for veterans.
The units underwent two, separate quality-control inspections through the company and a third party.
“We had so many applications years ago with the Manor on Paris, an 11-unit building," Biale said. "They asked us what we can do with the grammar school so we took the school down and built a unit."
Color schemes are currently being considered for the new housing units.
